Re: Abbreviations

The lesson is well appreciated: "Danke, dass ihr es mir gestattet habt zu fragen."

Ich habe seit den 1980er Jahren kein deutschspraechiges Land besucht -- am letzten Mal, Bayern -- und es ist leider nicht leicht, eine Sprache dabei zu erhalten. Ihre Lehre ist also die erste, die habe ich bei vielen Jahren bekommt. Sie bringt gute, alte Erinnerungen wieder.

I realize that to offer lessons in the German language to middle-aged Americans who retain a few, fond memories of younger German days is not the purpose of your Diplomacy list -- nor did my original post mean to request such a lesson -- but I thank you for today's lesson nevertheless. None of my five children speaks a word of German (though they think it a rare joke when their father says something in the language), and I live in Virginia, so I've no one any longer with whom to speak. Today has been like old times.
